Inter-provincial educational puzzle game «I AM WISE!»

On the afternoon of November 12, the first inter-provincial educational puzzle game «I AM WISE!» was held in the Great Hall of the Talsi People’s House.

The event was dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia – 70 different questions about and around Latvia were asked, some of which also reflected our city – Talsi. In the intense competition between teams from 13 other schools, Talsi Christian Secondary School’s team – teacher Vilnis Zarakauskis, Madara Balandina (grade 7), Edvarts Uzulnieks (grade 8), Agnese Imandra Rozenberga (grade 9b), Marta Kalāce (grade 11) and Asnate Feldmane (grade 12) – won the first prize. Thanks for the great teamwork and time to participate. We can!

Latvian Freedom Fighters’ Remembrance Day – Lāčplēsis Day 2019

On November 11 this year, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of victory over the West Russian Army commanded by Pavel Bermondt-Avalov in Riga. The annual illuminated torch procession led people across the Talsi from downtown to the monument «Koklētājs» to honor fallen soldiers, youth and volunteers who fought for an independent Latvia. This year, when the Latvian Army is celebrating its 100th anniversary, the making of the ceremony was entrusted to the Talsi Christian Secondary School’s students. The 10th grade symphonic band (teacher Jānis Smilga) and the 9th-12th class choir (teacher Kristīne Broka-Melķe) performed, but the event was moderated by the 11th grade student Abigaila Ieva Valgelina. The ceremonial speeches were given by Inguna Gruzniņa, the director of Talsi Christian Secondary School, Dainis Karols, the Chairman of Talsi County Council and Andris Pešelis, the pastor of Seventh-day Adventist Church.

«The Bible says that God gives times and borders for nations to live in, but a man does not live by bread alone. Even today, we need a bigger idea, and I think the big idea for my generation, my children’s generation and my grandchildren’s generation should be to preserve and protect Latvia’s freedom and independence. And we can only do that if we have strong families here that will root in their home country. God, bless Latvia!» Inguna Gruzniņa proudly announced, and all we have to do is agree.

Leadership Camp 2019

During the Autumn Holiday week from October 19 to 22, Talsi Christian Secondary School hosted the annual Leadership Camp. Each student from grades 8 to 12, as well as all teachers were invited to participate in the camp. This year’s camp was led by our long-known friends from the USA: Matthew McIntyre, Eric Dennis and Charles Pendley.

Each of the four days, Matthew McIntyre spoke on how to be a true leader and how to develop leadership skills. Eric Dennis and Charles led games that created new friendships by bringing students together. On October 20, the school held a church service that was open to everyone – not just the camp participants, but anyone who was interested. Each morning of the camp began with praise; later the pupils had their own free time to reflect on and discuss what they had heard. The camp also included volleyball competitions at the Talsi Sports House, where students competed, while the rest tried to support athletes wholeheartedly. On October 21, the students ran an annual race at the store «Rimi», where students had seven seconds to grab everything they want and it would be American-sponsored. On October 22, the final lectures were held and we said goodbyes to our American friends.

We are grateful to the camp leaders for the wonderful time they spent in meaningful conversations and fellowship-building activities, and for the resources they used to make this camp happen. Gratitude to every student and teacher who took their time to take care of their spiritual growth and, above all, gratitude to God for His presence. «Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.» /1. Thessalonians 5:18/
